if you have the passion for it , you're a winner.

This was during my college days , i was requested to join a cake decorating competition for our annual skills Olympics, we only had 1 day to prepare for it.. NO practice, me and my team mates just discussed what we would do for our cake. The theme was a specialty cake, so we decided on making a wedding cake instead. with only just a few hours till the competition, we prepared our cakes and all our decorating needs. We were so nervous before the competition, with no design prepared, we just improvised. We had our game faces on, looking prepared. No one knew that we weren't ( haha POKER FACE)  During the competition, the judges noticed us , they were intrigued by us, because we were the only team doing things traditionally. Unlike the other teams, we made our own hand piped flowers made from whipped cream, and leaves made out of chocolates. All the other teams just had pre-made decorations for their cake. We were all given an hour and a half to finish our cakes. Sadly, we hadn't finished ours, the judges insisted we finish our cake. I think they wanted to see how our cake fully decorated. After the judges deliberated, it was time to call out the winner. we thought , surely we wouldn't be the winners, but then , when the MC announced the winners, we were shocked to hear our names. Dang!! it felt really good. We were so happy that day :) and that was then i realized that, you get nothing for doing things the easy way, and without passion you get nothing..

game faces on

even the other teams were watching us

happy celebrated winners :)

let the cookie crumble

as years past, I've been making crinkles, sugar cookies, ginger bread cookes and my very own version of achocolate chip cookies which i used two toned choco chips. I've done some free hand cookie decorating as well, and i tell yah.. IT AIN'T EASY!! well, it takes a whole lot of practice.. ;)
 my blue valentine ginger bread cookies :) with royal icing
 my unbaked crinkles

 these i made for a friend.. well, it's very difficult when you decorate them free hand..
 my two-toned chocolatechip cookies from scratch :)
and yes, my christmas ginger bread men :)
lastly. our ginger bread houses.. takes a lot of time to make these.. a lot of tears were shed due to frustrations of building these.. :))

it all started with pancakes

When i was a little girl, my mom would make pancakes every morning. My siblings and I would watch her, preparing the batter on our dining table, turn on the stove, place our old frying pan on it, wait for it to heat up, melt  the butter in it (which made a yummy aroma all over the house) , then she takes a soup laddle , get laddle full of batter, then slowly pours it on the pan making a perfect pancake circle. As little children, we get so curious, asking our mom "how will you know when it's ready to be turned over?" our mom, smiled and said "wait for the bubbles to come out, and that's when you'll know. "  After that, we all wanted to try making it, which made me and the kitchen connected.

My mom, is a great baker, a traditional one in fact. Taught by a woman who made our parents wedding cake, my mom made it into a home business. I would watch her bake cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, and a lot more. During our elementary years, we would be selling our mom's home made crinkles at school. She would give me and my sister a bag each to sell (and my mom's crinkles were a hit). Over the years, I would ask my mom to help her  (like a little apprentice) whenever she makes them, until one day I was the one baking them too.. I enjoyed it and loved it, and days passed, she would teach me how to bake all her goodies. This is when i started to realize that this is my passion. I would always browse my mom's black journal full of her handwritten recipes which was almost the same age as mine. (and still is in tact on this day)  Wide-eyed and full of curiosity, I always felt excited whenever she would bake and make pancakes.
